Workers’ compensation insurance provides wage replacement and medical benefits to employees injured “out of and in the course of their work”, while providing employers with protection from civil suit for work related injuries. Virginia law requires that a business with more than two employees obtain and carry workers’ compensation coverage.  The Virginia Workers’ Compensation Act is the statute which establishes liability of employers for injuries to workers on the job or illnesses due to their employment.
